SAMPLE OPINIONS PAGE LETTER TO PROMOTE PRESENTATIONS / DISCUSSIONS Dear Opinions Page Editor, As the conditions of the US occupation of Iraq go from bad to worse, as US soldiers in Iraq continue to die and are maimed on an almost daily basis, as Iraqis continue to die, about 20 a day, from the effects of the occupation, as resistance to the occupation mounts with more dramatic assaults against the occupation infrastructure occurring almost daily, we learn that the weapons of mass destruction, the alleged connection to 9-11 terrorism, the alleged nuclear weapons program and many other justifications given by the US administration for the war were very likely hoaxes. The war in Iraq is becoming more and more unpopular in the US with even many families of GIs and the GIs themselves starting to call for their withdrawal from the occupation. The problem is that the US invaded Iraq and is proceeding with the occupation without there ever having been a clear and free debate based upon factual information. Meanwhile, the Bush administration popularity is slipping as is the popularity of the occupation. In Britain, the US’s partner in invasion and occupation, Tony Blair is now besieged with demands for his resignation over the Iraq debacle. The time is now for a free and open dialogue on the issue of Iraq and the continuing occupation. There will be an excellent opportunity for students of Rider University and residents of Lawrence and surrounding communities to engage in such a discussion this Saturday, September 13, at noon at the Lawrence Library, just off Business Route 1 and Darrah Lane in Lawrence Township. The activity is co-sponsored by the Committee to End the Occupation ( http://EndOccIraq.org ) and the Mercer County Green Party. The format of the meeting is a slide presentation on the impact of the US occupation on the Iraqi people, followed by a free and open discussion during which all questions, comments and views will be recognized and appreciated. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to bwitanek@igc.org . Hopefully you can attend this important event. Details:
