Hello All!
The Committee to End the Occupation
http://EndOccIraq.org is looking to set up as many slide show presentations
on the occupation of Iraq – we have set a goal for 20 before the
end of September. Right now, we have 9 either confirmed or near confirmed and a
number of others are
tentative. Thus far near confirmed include:
Rowan University, Glassboro NJ on
evening of Thursday, September 11
Lawrence Township, NJ, Noon, September 13
Princeton University, Princeton NJ
on evening of Sunday, September 14
Newark, NJ, Rutgers, Newark, on
afternoon of Wednesday, September 17
Rocky Hill, NJ (Somerset County) on
evening of Thursday, September 18
Cherry Hill, NJ on evening of
Sunday, September 21
Highland Park, NJ on evening of Tuesday, September 23
Plainfield, NJ on evening of Wednesday, September 24
Hoboken, NJ on evening of Friday, September 26
We need your help meeting our goal – please check
with your organizations, your local libraries or wherever your organizations
meet to see about other venues for these presentations. We plan to do some
publicity and invite participants to continue to help schedule these workshops.
We also need you help in organizing these events.
We will soon be producing sample flyers as well as specific flyers for the
events in conjunction with local organizers. Around each location, we would
like to have a group of people to help publicize the events to local
organizations, organizers, churches, community groups, newspapers (sample press
release forthcoming) and generally in the local communities. If you can help
out in any of the above events, please contact me at
bwitanek@igc.org .
Also, for each of the events, we are interested in scheduling additional events
in the same area on the same day. For example, for those events that are
scheduled in the evening (all but Rutgers Newark thus far) we would be
interested in an additional such event in the afternoon and for the day that we
will be in Newark in the afternoon, we would be interested in a
similar event in the evening (at Montclair – in the Newark community, etc.)
Again, please contact me at
bwitanek@igc.org . (If that day does not work for you we would come back
on other days we well.)
Please contact me ASAP with your ideas about
possibilities with your organization, on your campus, at your high school and /
or in your communities!
bwitanek@igc.org This movement against the occupation will not organize
itself!
Many thanks for all of those who are working with
us to help schedule these events – and to organize and publicize them as well!
Below is the description of the events – the most important part
of which is the open discussion which follows the slide presentations.

Description of presentation:
The intent of the slideshow is to provide a narrative of the US occupation,
along with a brief introduction of events and issues leading up to the invasion.
It is designed for a broad audience as a basis for an intelligent discussion of
the issues while challenging the many of the deep misconceptions that persist
about Iraq in the US. Among the issues addressed are the effects of the Shock
and Awe bombing campaign, the rise of the Shiite majority to challenge the US
occupation plans, the role of the Kurdish parties, the control of Iraq's oil by
the US, the role of the United Nations and other US allies in the Iraq
occupation. A central feature of the program is the large number of slides
showing the conduct of US soldiers as an occupation force. The slide show makes
a concerted effort to show the ongoing killing of Iraqis by US forces that
generally go unreported in the US press.
