CALL FOR UNITY AGAINST US / UN OCCUPATION OF IRAQ

The UN Security Council has once again capitulated to the United States and betrayed the sovereignty of the Iraqi people by voting unanimously to urge nations to send troops to join the US controlled occupation of Iraq.

We encourage all to recognize that the Security Council resolution is not about keeping peace and it is not about Iraqi sovereignty.  This resolution is an escalation of the war and the trampling of the sovereign rights of the Iraqi people.  After 13 years of deadly UN backed sanctions, the UN condemned Iraq with resolution 1441 providing the pretext for  the US invasion and takeover of Iraq.  While there was bluster from Security Council members against the US attack, shortly after the start of the invasion, the Council returned to pass 1483 which recognized the US invader as a legitimate occupation authority.  Now with passage of (1511), the Security Council has given the US an open ended commitment to what could become an endless occupation.

The Security Council has a very clear and recent example of just how little concern the US has for sovereignty of Iraq.  As Turkey has approved the introduction of troops into Iraq – it was roundly opposed by the US appointed Iraq Governing Council.  Yet the US has prevailed upon the IGC that the Turkish troops, who many Iraqis view as potential enemies , will indeed be deployed in Iraq.  Even with this clear example of the trampling of any veneer of sovereignty of the Iraqis, the UN has plodded forward with its unanimous approval of an escalation of foreign intervention and counter insurgency in Iraq.

The concerns of the UN nations should be clear to see – the US has announced the privatization of Iraq and has invited foreign business men “to the table” at which the nation and people of Iraq will be carved up and served.  The Security Council nations want a seat at that table as they would like a taste of the potentially lucrative action.  The problem is that before the meal can be served, the resistance to the foreign occupation and usurpation of Iraq needs to be defeated or rendered inconsequential.  Thus to sit at the table, foreign governments must offer troops to the counter insurgency effort being directed by the United States against the entire Iraqi population.

Meanwhile, with the assistance for its Iraq war effort secured, the US can reset its sights on the resources of other nations in the area and around the world.  Indeed the UN vote could enable the US to launch an aggressive assault against Syria or Iran.

We appeal now for unity against the UN fig leaf for the US war on and occupation of Iraq and urge all to remain steadfastly committed to the demand of immediate unconditional withdrawal of US and all foreign troops from Iraq.  We call for solidarity with the people of all of the nations who are being asked, pressured and bribed to send troops in their struggles to prevent their soldiers to be used as mercenaries in the US effort to consolidate its iron grip on the Iraqi nation.  We join with you to work together to unmask this latest UN Security Council act of betrayal of the Iraqi people.  We urge all to unite to oppose what now is a US and UN occupation of Iraq and war against the Iraqi people.
